Last Week — UK Colder than the Arctic Circle

20070607_uk_diff_mapsLAST WEEK (27 MAY-2 JUN) in the United Kingdom there was a wholesale change in the weather from the week prior to the Spring Bank Holiday to the following week.  Temperatures last week trended cooler than a year ago and cooler than normal for the UK as a whole which prompted some headlines to read “UK Colder than the Arctic Circle”.  The cool weather was not the only issue last week.  Rainfall amounts trended much higher than last year and higher than normal for the week overall making it the wettest first week of June in over 14 years.  The combination of cool and wet weather most likely slowed footfall and sales of seasonal categories significantly during this key period.
