Major hurricane Bill, well off the U.S. East Coast, motivated me to update my outdated blog this Friday afternoon. This Bill and that Bill will have no impact on the U.S. this weekend other than some great surfing conditions along the East Coast. Our own PhD Michael Ferrari, avid surfing enthusiast, is contemplating a trip to the shore. Yours truly learned to surf growing up in Hawaii but after a few too many “wipe-outs” opted to take up less threatening activities like speaking out against the global warming hysteria! Career threatening, but not life threatening…at least not yet.
The 2009 hurricane season is running well below average and off to a very late start (latest start in 25 years to have the first named storm in middle August). While the media tells us there are more and stronger hurricanes due to global warming, the data suggests otherwise. The experts down at Florida State University show that the hurricane energy (days with systems across the globe) have been declining sharply since the peak in 1993 and secondary peak in 2005. In fact, the activity right now is the least in over 50 years (see chart below)!
So, don’t believe it when you hear there is “consensus among scientists” about global warming or hurricanes or other calamities getting worse! Science has nothing to with consensus if the data and real world evidence suggests otherwise. Some of the greatest scientists in history, Galileo, Darwin, Einstein were great because they didn’t buy into the theories of the day. Just because it’s on TV, doesn’t mean it’s real.
The media will have you believe that every scientist is convinced about global warming, guess they forgot to ask the 50,000+ PhDs, climatologists, meteorologists (Bill’s on the list), physicists, etc from MIT, Harvard, etc. that have signed a petition that they are not part of the consensus. My suggestion is do your own research and make up your own mind. Many folks in the U.K. have done just that as a few years ago (in the midst of media hysteria on the Summer heat-wave) upwards of 80% of Britons thought global warming was real, today after many a brutally cold/wet Summers and unusual snow storms along with a carbon tax has over 62% saying they were bamboozled by their government! Carbon tax is coming to a state near you!
